    Hello everyone!

I'm from the U.S., living in Argentina. I've already read through alot of these forums, and first of all I'd like to say thank you to everyone involved, it is such a good resource!

I've loved hostals ever since I travelled Europe a few years ago.

My dad and I purchased a house here (Argentina) together, and we are thinking of making it a small hostal. Although I don't have any experience working at a hostal, I have stayed in quite a few and I feel capable and excited to provide travellers with a comfortable, fun place to stay. Considering we will only have 19 beds, at least to start, I thought it might be possible to research as much as possible, then learn as I go. I have plenty of family and friends willing to help, and the house is bought and paid for, so those are two issues I won't have to deal with. Does this sound reasonable? It sounds like alot of the hostals on here are rather large, and I've read a 60 bed hostal being referred to as small. What do you think, is it possible to start out with 19 beds and no working experience in a hostal?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello everyone,

I am sorry I haven't introduced myself before, but I've been reading and writing some threads here. My name is Esther, I am 26 and I run a hostel in Buzios, Brazil. My partners in the business are my husband and his uncle. We've opened on Junuary, 2009 and I am totally loving the job. When the hostel is full, the money is good. When the hostel is kind of empty, I get time to meet the most interesting people.

I'll keep posting so you will know more about me. Oh... And I have to say: congratulations on the work on HM. Greatest source of good information I've ever seen.

    Cheers!

Hi again you all, i was writing on this board some month ago as a receptionist of the Plusflorence in Italy and now, starting from next month, I'll be so lucky to write as one of the managers of the PlusPrague in Czech Republic. So, I need your suggestions more than before :-)

    Nice to meet you again.

Thank you: they're probably fools, asking me to be interested in making more money is as foolish as pretending fishes to speak. But life is sometimes strange

I donīt think so. I think they have identified you as a non-fool. Congrats to that. Good hostel managers are very hard to find, and if you find one within your staff itīs even better.

My name is Rik and I am a quasi international vagabond. Many of you are more experienced than I and many not. If you want to know a bit about me, I am at www.earth-world.org
I am interested in opening a world class international hostel in Indianapolis, IN.
If you are local and interested in making this work, not afraid of working for free for a year or so and have the same vision as I, contact me at
