Default Hostel Chat Revisited

I'm testing out a new system for the Hostel Chat.

Give it a try -- it integrates with instant messenger programs like Google Chat, Email, mobile phones, etc. It looks simple to use.

If you post here, I'll probably reply because it will show up on my desktop even if I'm not on this page. If it works I'll setup a permanent chat room.

Default Re: Hostel Chat Revisited

Update: I've embedded the chat in the bottom of the page of every forum thread. Let me know what you think.
Update 2: I've removed the chat from every page because it needs some work. In the meantime, chat here, or connect it to your Gmail chat account to chat anytime.

The main chat room can be found on the Web here:
http://www.chatterous.com/hostels/

If you want to have desktop notification when someone is chatting (through your instant messaging program), this is the process:
  1. Go to http://www.chatterous.com/ and create an account. Once you set it up you won't have to login there again, but you need the account to connect it to your desktop.
  2. Download Pidgin -- a free program that every hostel should have. It lets you chat on every major chat network at the same time.
  3. Add your Gmail chat account to Pidgin. If you don't have a gmail account, you can get one here.
  4. Then go back to your Chatterous account and connect Pidgen to the chat room as shown below.

From then on you'll never have to login anywhere - a notification will popup on your desktop when a new message gets posted to the chat room, and you can reply from your desktop.
