Hostel Management

Hi all, I've read most of the last threads about hostel softwares and it seems that everyone could confirm that i don't really need to pay for a mgmt software for a hostel of 50-60 beds.
I'm not very keen on a paper diary tho and i was considering the use of a spreadsheet.
Has anyone of you an example of a well organized, maybe implemented with macros, functions, secured cells and whatsoever to share?
Not for lazyness, it's just to take advantage of other people's experience

When I used a spreadsheet there weren't any macros, but if I were going to write a macro it would make a versioned backup every time it's saved.
