If anybody is coming to the Unconference from Poland, there are some seats available in a car driving down from Krakow. If interested, please reply to this post and I will pass on your contact information.

Hi there,
Is it possible to provide us a list of who has signed up for the Unconference? You can send it to my private email address, if so.

Thanks ever so much.

I think there at 15 people signed up at the moment and I'm expecting at least 20. Everyone who is going works in hostels except for one person from a no-commission hostel directory website.

Hope you can make it!

Hi Carolyn,

It would be awesome to see you in Grünau! Come on, it´s just a short drive for you anyway!

I know this event will just roll on between conversations but I wouldn't mind having a previous brainstorming session...

I would be interested in the following topics:

- Working together as partners, not competition

- How to handle the frugal buyer: customer care for picky guests during recession!

- Alternative marketing strategies

- The booking engine paradox: To be or not to be there?

- Being top rated: The Portuguese Hostel experience

- Running activities to increase revenue and ratings...

I bet there are more topics we wanna talk about... do you have any suggestions?

Good topics...

More ideas (somewhat overlapping)
  • Offline marketing (e.g., making connections with other hostels, even if it's informal - they do an especially good job of this in some places I've been to)
  • Booking engines: how booking engines can be encouraged to become more hostel-friendly, and/or how hostels can support hostel-friendly hostel directories.
  • the future of hostelling - what is the ideal scenario and how do hostels make it happen?
  • bedbug prevention/control -- there was an interesting discussion about this in Canada. I'll see if I have my notes.
  • how to make hostelling more popular worldwide
  • are collaborative social media efforts worthwhile? (social media = online word of mouth)
